What is research?
Our Research team helps us understand where we are, where we’re heading and what our whānau need along the way.
Through research, data and insights, the team supports the iwi to make informed decisions, strengthen our planning and shape the mahi we do. They work across our organisation to bring together knowledge and evidence that can help us understand our challenges, identify opportunities and ensure our mahi is having a meaningful impact.
Their work helps inform the decisions we make today, while keeping our focus on the aspirations of our whānau and the generations to come.
He Whenua, He Tangata
This kaupapa honours and preserves the lived experiences and whakapapa of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei whānau and kaumātua affected by living in, resettlement, and forced removal from Ōkahumatamomoe. Guided by our iwi voices and perspectives, the project ensures these histories are respected, cared for, and shared in ways that support cultural identity, healing, and intergenerational knowledge transfer. It also helps the wider community and Aotearoa gain a deeper, more accurate understanding of colonial impacts, the significance of whenua, and tino rangatiratanga.
Oral histories and interviews will be conducted with whānau. These hui whakawhiti kōrero will provide whānau with the space to share their memories, experiences, and feelings in their own way, using pūrākau.
