Whenua Rangatira Updates

In the lead up to Matariki, significant work is underway across our whenua Rangatira. From Te Ao Manatū to Takaparawhau Events Area, here's the latest.

Te Ao Manatū: Nestled at the heart of Takaparawhau, Te Ao Manatū, also known as the three rocks close to where Te Arohanui stood during the Bastion Point occupation. Collaborating with Xanthe from White Design who is designing the installation to honour its importance as wāhi tapu. A special acknowledgment goes to our talented whanaunga, Kaea Tamaariki, as the lead designer.

Takaparawhau & Ōkahu Signage: Exciting times ahead with the planned rollout of new signage across Takaparawhau and Ōkahu. This project is a collaborative effort, incorporating colours from the Resene palette and drawing on the graphic expertise and historical knowledge of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.

Takaparawhau Events Area: We're on a mission to elevate the Takaparawhau events area! Groundwork, including decompaction and aeration, is underway to ensure optimal conditions, especially during the winter season. Kia mau tonu mai e te whānau. Keep an eye out for more updates over the coming months.

Papa Tākaro: We’re currently in the initial stages of the Papa Tākaro project. The delivery team welcomes those interested in contributing to join the Project Working Group. The purpose of the group is to provide guidance and advice, please express your interest by filling in the form here.

EV Charging Stations: Supporting our HIKO EV initiative, we have installed three (3) EV charging stations at Ōrākei Marae, in the vicinity of the carpark beside Tumanako House. The installation was complete at the beginning of April, 2024. Promoting not only a greener mode of transport but the benefits on sustainability and economic advances for whānau.

Three (3) electric Hiko vehichles were purchased to serve as a shared waka kaupapa based at Ōrākei Marae in 2024. Allowing whānau the ability to use the Hiko EV for special events and iwi kaupapa.
