What is this program about?
Helps whānau who are living in emergency housing, in low-income households, have no renting experience or history. This program provides the opportunity for you to grow your knowledge and skills around getting into a private rental and maintaining your tenancy.
What does this program cover?
Understanding the rights and responsibilities of being a tenant. How to set and maintain a home budget and debt management. Maintaining a warm and dry home. How to effectively communicate with property owners and submitting tenancy applications for prospective properties. What support is available from the Ministry of Social Development.
How will this help me?
You will learn what your rights and responsibilities are as a tenant. You will be offered time with a case manager to sure you are getting your full and correct entitlements. Supports from an MSD housing broker and understanding what they do. Budgeting pathways if finance is an issue. Once completed you will be awarded with a certificate that would give landlords/property managers the confidence you have taken the initiative to learn the skills needed to maintain a tenancy and look after their home.
